Where the wild things are – crochet amigurumis [Patterns from other website n°8]

where the wild things are amigurumi by ahooka

When I’ve first created the “patterns from other website” category, I wanted to share my experiences – good or not so good – with patterns found over the internet. The thing is that this blog is both in English and in French (…my mother tongue, as you may have noticed thanks to my broken English :p) and most of those patterns are only in English. That’s why I’ve decided to contact Sharon Ojala, the designer behind all the great amigurumi patterns available for free on amigurumitogo.com, and ask her if she would allow me to translate one (or more) pattern of hers in French. I was delighted that she accepted right away !!

As well as being a great pattern designer, Sharon seems to be a very nice person, and I’d like to thank her again here :) So, big up ! ^^

I’ve made a little poll on my facebook page, to know which pattern French speakers would like me to translate first, and The unnamed monster was the clear winner !

Of course, this doesn’t change anything for you who read these lines in English, but if you know French speakers who’d love to make Sharon’s pattern too, please share this link to the French translation of the unnamed monster pattern ! :)

Well, less talking, more reviewing !

The pattern :

Designer : Sharon Ojala on amigurumitogo.com

Pattern link : http://www.amigurumitogo.com/2014/10/fuzzy-head-monster-pattern-free.html

Price : free !

Pros :

– very detailed pattern, beginners friendly :)
– completely explained in video !
– doesn’t call for safety eyes, which means suitable for children as far as all the parts are properly attached.

Cons :

– The fur parts call for acrylic yarn, specifically ! I used a cotton/acrylic mix yarn and I couldn’t get it as fluffy as Sharon’s.

My changes :

I didn’t change anything for Max,  except for the eyes which I crocheted (single crochet 6 in a magic ring on the first round and 6 increases on the second round) and the nose which tip I made in pink.

In order to make KW, here are the changes I made :

The belly :

Follow the instructions of the pattern but don’t make any color changes and make regular stitches on the round where you’re supposed to work in the back loops only. Then brush it with your pet brush.

The hair :

R1 à 15 : follow the original pattern
R16 to 25 : 21 single crochet, chain 1, turn (21)

Brush.

Fuzzy piece:

Follow the original pattern but make one row in the head color and the other in the hair color. Brush.

Arms :

R1 to 9 : Follow the original pattern, “sleeves” section
R10: (1 single crochet, decrease), repeat 4 times (8)
R11 to 12 : 1 single crochet in each stitch of the previous round (8)
R13: (2 single crochet, decrease), repeat 2 times (6)

Fasten of, stuff lightly, brush and sew to the body.

Ears :

R1 : 4 single crochets in a MR, chain 1, turn
R2 : one single crochet, 2 increases, one single crochet

Fasten of leaving a long tail for sewing.

All you need to do now is to assemble the face just like for Carol’s !

Max :

Maybe have you noticed in the pictures above that a tiny little Max joined the party :) It feels like a new free pattern is coming soon doesn’t it? Stay tuned !!

  1. You are AMAZING and I’m so happy I found you – can’t wait for Max so I can crochet them all and give them to a lucky child. This was my son’s favorite book when he was little. I will make these for his daughters.

Really.. many thanks for starting this up. This web
site is something that is needed on the internet, someone with a bit of originality!

  5. I have watched your video of The unnamed monster and have the written instructions. Am I able to get the written instructions for the other animals for free. I am 73 yrs old and finding other patterns quite difficult to work around. Your video was very easy to follow but I cant crochet that fast. Many thanks for what you do. Katherine.
