Crochet soap net – bar soap holder {free pattern}

Are you done too with those soap bars slipping between your hands, sitting in water or getting stuck on the bath edge? What about crocheting these little soap nets ? They’re nice, practical and very quick to make. Plus, their pattern is free ! :)

And if you don’t use soap bars, you can still make it to hold whatever you need ! You can easily adapt the pattern by making a longer starting chain (with an odd number of chains) and that’s it !

Skill level: Beginner. You’ll need to know how to make a chain, a double crochet, a slip stitch and that’s it !

Approx size : 5″ for the biggest and 4″ for the smaller one

Material: Cotton yarn (ie : Scheepjes Catona) with a 2.5mm hook (C) and a tapestry needle. I also used a bit of cord as a strap for the bigger net but it’s optional as the pattern explains how to make a crocheted strap as for the smaller one.

Abreviations (US terms):
ch : chain
dc : double crochet
st : stitch
slst: slip stitch
(…,…)*x : repeat “x” number of time the instructions between brackets

Smaller net pattern :

R1 : ch23, dc1 in the 5th chain from hook (pictures 1-2), (ch1, skip 1st, dc in next st)*9, ch1. Then, on the other side of the starting chain : dc1 (in the same st as the last dc – pictures 3-4), (ch1, skip 1st, dc in next st)*9, ch1, slst in the ch before the last to close the round (pictures 5-6).

R2-11 (10 rounds) : ch3, (dc in dc, ch1)*20, slst in the 2nd ch of the begining of the round to close the round (picture 7).

To make the strap, ch81, slst in the 2nd ch from hook and in the next 79ch. Weave in the yarn ends (picture 8). Insert it in the last round starting on a side and going under and over each double crochet (picture 9). Knot both ends together (picture 10).

Bigger net pattern :

Feel free to look at the smaller net pictures as the only thing changing is the number of stitches.

R1 : ch33, dc1 in the 5th chain from hook, (ch1, skip 1st, dc in next st)*14, ch1. Then, on the other side of the starting chain : dc1 (in the same st as the last dc), (ch1, skip 1st, dc in next st)*14, ch1, slst in the ch before the last to close the round.

R2-15 (14 rounds) : ch3, (dc in dc, ch1)*30, slst in the 2nd ch of the begining of the round to close the round .

To make the strap, you can either use 2 pieces of cord as shown in the pictures (they should be about 17.5″ each, or use the same instructions as for the smaller net strap (making 2 of them) but with 121 ch ans 120slst. You’ll then need to insert the first one in R13 and the second one in R14 starting on the opposite side. Knot the ends of both sides together.

And that’s it !

I hope you’ll love your new crocheted soap holder !

See you soon ! :)
